What duties will I have?
Your duties within
the family will differ from job to job but they should be negotiated at the time
of employment. As a Nanny your duties would be child related. As a Mothers help
or housekeeper you may be expected to carry out more general household duties
such as cooking, laundry and housework.
What is the difference between
a Nanny and a Mothers help?
Nannies are qualified
to NNEB or equivalent standard, a nanny may be expected to take sole charge of
the children and be fully responsible to meet all the needs of the young children.
Their duties would only be child related including meals, laundry, keeping rooms
tidy as well as being responsible for any school runs.
Wages
for a live-in Nanny are between 150.00 to 350.00 net per week and for a live-out
180.00 to 350.00. These are dependant upon age, experience, qualifications and
location. The above rates are based on a five day week working from 8.00am to
6.00pm.
Mothers helps are not qualified but will have relevant
childcare experience working alongside Mothers in the general care of the young
children. A Mothers help should not expect to have sole charge of the children.
They will also be expected to carry out other household duties. Wages will vary,
for a live-in 140.00 to 250.00 and for live-out 180.00 to 250.00 again this is
for full time.
Do I have to pay my own Tax and National Insurance?
No! Working for a family as a childcarer, your employer is
required by law to register with the Inland Revenue as an employer and to deduct
Income Tax and National Insurance contributions from your wages. You must be provided
with a payslip showing clearly the deductions which have been made.
What
is the difference between net pay and gross pay?
Net pay is the pay you receive in your pocket each week or month. Gross pay is
your wages before Tax and National Insurance have been deducted.
